BLUE MOUND SUN, BLUE MOUND, KANSAS November 10, 1934, Page 1 Obituary for Gibson L. Lake Gibson L. Lake was born November 10, 1839, in West Virginia, and died at his home two and one-half miles south of Blue Mound, Kansas, on November 7, 1905, of congestion of the stomach after only three days illness. The deceased was united in marriage with Mary Henderson in March, 1867, of which union five sons and two daughters were born, all of whom survive the father. The family came to Blue Mound township in 1883 from West Virginia and have lived ever since on the farm they bought. Mr. Lake was an intelligent man, an indulgent father, a good neighbor and an honest man. He served in Co E. 7th regiment West Virginia infantry during the Rebellion and was one of the very few soldiers of that war living in this part of the county who never secured a pension. He did not look to be strong, but the illness he had that caused death was the first he had had since he was 14 years old that required a physician's attendance. The funeral was held in the Baptist church at 11 a.m. November 9, 1905, conducted by Rev. O. U. McProud, of the M. E. church, and the body laid to rest in Pleasant View cemetery to await the Resurrection day. The G. A. R. post; of which the deceased was a member officiated at the cemetery assisted by Rev. McProud.
