Courier Post Camden, NJ August 19, 2007 LAKE, GORDON W. Colonel USAF (RET) Age 85, of Moores-town,NJ, died August 16th in his home. He lived his early life in Maine (Lubec and Bath). He attended Bowdoin College, and then worked in the Bath Iron Works Shipyard. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942 and served continuously until 1972. He was a senior pilot with over 12,000 hours. He flew C-118's and C-130's at McGuire AFB, NJ, and was the Commander of a C-130 Squadron there. At Phang Rang, South Vietnam, he served as Deputy Commander, Operations, of the 315th Air Commando Wing, flying C-123's. His last assignment was Base Comm-ander of McGuire. He held the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, two Air Medals and the Bronze Star. After his military career he and his wife, Hilda, nee Bradford, lived in Mt. Holly, NJ, where he was the Purchasing Manager for Inductotherm Company. Later he founded Sauna Health Company which he owned and operated. Colonel Lake is survived by his daughter Linda Lake Johnston, his son Gordon A. Lake II and daughter-in-law Deborah. He has four grandchildren: Kate Johnston, Gordon A. Lake III, Rachel Lake, Danel Lake and his wife Karla. He has a great-grandson Evan Lake. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 21st at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at the Evergreens Retirement Community, 309 Bridge-boro Rd, Moorestown. Burial with full Military Honors will be held at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans' Memorial Cemetery and will be private.
