Hastings Tribune Hastings, NE Sep 27, 2005 Grace Lake Former Nelson resident Grace (Hackett) Lake, 92, of Kent, Wash., died Thursday, Dec 9, 2004. Graveside services are 1 pm Sunday at Nelson Cemetery in Nelson. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home in Nelson is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent at www.pricefuneralhomes.com. Mrs Lake was born April 8, 1912, to William and Anna (Rhan) Hackett in the Sandhills. Her family moved to Colorado. She started her career as a teacher in a one-room school on the Colorado plains. On Aug 2, 1940, she married Mirza J Lake and they moved back to the Sandhills. They later moved to Shreveport, La., and then to Little Rock, Ark., where she taught school. She continued teaching in Nebraska and was a published author. In 1978, she and her husband retired to Kent. Her husband died Oct 14, 1997. Survivors are three sons, Melvin of Kent, Gerald of Las Vegas and Joseph of Gold Bar, Wash., two daughters, Madelyn Decker of California and Jerilyn Lake of St Louis, Mo.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was a teacher at the elementary, secondary and college levels for 35 years. She retired in 1975. She was a member of Auburn City Seventh Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed writing, reading, music and playing the piano, and she was a published author. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mirza Joe LAKE in 1996. She is survived by her three sons, Dr. Melvin Lake of Kent, Gerald Lake of Las Vegas, and Joe Lake of Monroe; daughters Jerilyn Lake of St. Louis and Madelyn DECKER of California; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at Auburn City Seventh Day Adventist Church.
