Coffeyville Journal; Coffeyville KS; 1993-2-28 Grace Emily Lake, 86, of Coffeyville, died Friday (Feb 26, 1993) at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Lake was born Aug. 1, 1906, in Anderson County to Evan A. and Mary (Frame) VanScoyoc. She grew up in the rural community of Mont. Ida. She graduated from Garnett High School and taught school in rural Anderson County. In 1934, she graduated from Kansas State Agricultul College in Manhattan and taught schools in Attica and Clearwater. She married Donald W. Lake in Wichita June 26, 1936. They made their home in Anthony where Mr. Lake began his teaching career. In 1941, they moved with their infant son, to Coffeyville where Mr. Lake accepted a teaching position. In 1956, Mrs. Lake began teaching in Coffeyville elementary schools and continuted until her retirement in 1971. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Christian Woman's Fellowship, a charter member of Lioness Club, Daughters of the American Colonists, the Monday Book Club, and for many years the American Association of University Women. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Donald in 1948. Survivors include: her husband; one daughter, Carol Smith, of the home; one sister, Marjorie Smith, of Topeka, two grandchildren; and two step grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, in the First Christian Church, Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Ford-Wulf-Bruns Colonial Chapel today from 9 am to 9 pm and Monday from 8 am to 9 pm. The family would welcome memorials to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund.
