Published in The Sacramento Bee on April 7, 2010 Sacramento, CA BLACK, Gwendolyn Roberta (1/18/1921 4/01/2010) ''Gwennie'' was a longtime resident of Sacramento for 50 years before moving to Roseburg, Oregon upon husband's retirement. She belonged to the Sacramento Orchid Society and the Weavers' Guild. Gwennie was born in the Black Hills of South Dakota on January 18, 1921 to Mattie E. and William E. Lake. Gwendolyn passed away on April 1, 2010 in Missouri. She was preceded in death by her adoring husband, Peyton Bernard Black and her son Peyton Bernard Black, Jr. She is survived by children Sharon, Sue and Pamela, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service and burial at the National Cemetery in Roseburg, Oregon will take place on May 20 where she will be buried next to her husband of 65 years, Peyton Bernard Black.
