Corvallis Gazette Times; Corvallis OR; 2012-1-29 Harriet Irene Lakie July 24, 1921 - Jan. 24, 2012 Harriet Lakie of Keizer passed away on Jan. 24 at the age of 90. She was born on July 24, 1921, in Barnesville, Minn., to Iver and Inga Swenson. She was raised in Barnesville. Following high school, Harriet attended beauty school in Minneapolis, Minn., for two years. Following completion of school, she married her high school sweetheart, Jim Lakie, on May 14, 1943, and they moved to Long Beach, Calif. while Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Following Jim's discharge from the military, they moved to Corvallis while Jim attended Oregon State University. In 1951, they settled in Keizer. Harriet has been a resident of Willamette Lutheran Retirement Center since 2009. Harriet was employed as a manager of the beauty salon at Meier & Frank for more than 25 years. She then worked for JC Penney Beauty Salon until her retirement at the age of 79. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Clear Lake Methodist Church and the Sons of Norway. She was an avid Portland Trail Blazers and OSU Beavers fan. Harriet was preceded in death by two sisters, Stella and Gladys; her son, James Craig in 1996; grandson Jeffrey Sailor in 1999; and her husband of 62 years in 2005. She is survived by her daughter Judy Sailor and husband Mike of Corvallis; daughter Helen Browning of Keizer; daughter-in-law Brenda Lakie of Aloha; sister Glorine Schulstad of Barnesville; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, at Grace Chapel at Willamette Lutheran Retirement Center in Keizer.
