Daily Sentinel; Grand Junction CO; 1999-10-20 DEATH NOTICE Hazel Lakes Dennis, 85, Fruita and Delta, died Oct. 13, 1999, in Sandy, Utah. Services 1 p.m. Saturday at Delta Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, Visitation from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the church. Mrs. Dennis was a teacher. Survivors include one son, Alan Lee of Casper, WY; two daughters, Karol Ann Hoaglund of Fruita, and Kathleen Joan Borrows of Sandy, UT; Nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren Delta County Independant; Delta Co MO; 1999-10-20 HAZEL DENNIS Hazel (Lakes) Dennis, 85, died on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, in Sandy UT. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the Church of Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1679 Pioneer Road, Delta. Friends may call the day of the services from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.. Interment will be in Delta City Cemetery. She was born on Nov. 14, 1913, in Muncy, KY, to William Preston and Louisa (Farmer) Lakes. The family Moved to Colorado in 1918 and settled near LaVeta and later near Pueblo. She was a 1932 graduate of Central High School in Pueblo. After receiving her teaching certificate from Western state College in Gunnison, she taught school at Fowler and Monte Vista. After returning to Western State for her B.A., she taught grades kindergarten through eight for five years at Iola, fourth grade for one year at Crawford, and finished her teaching career with 17 years teaching first grade at Garnet Mesa Elementary in Delta. She retired in 1975 at the age of 62. She married Ralph Ivan Dennis at Salida on Aug. 20, 1938. He preceded her in death in 1985. Mrs. Dennis loved teaching, children, birds, wildflowers and everything about Colorado Rockies. She is survived by a son, Alan Lee Dennis and his wife Sandi of Casper, WY.; two daughters, Karol Ann Hoaglund of Fruita, and Kathleen Joan Burrows and her husband Marc, of Sandy, UT.; nine grandchildren, Christine White, and her husband Zane of Roosevelt, UT., Cheryl Struble and her husband Marvin of Cottonwood, CA., Brandi Dressler and her husband Lloyd, of Clifton, Donnell Dennis of Fort Collins, Jennifer Slade and her husband James of Payson, UT., Jessica Burrows, of Littleton, and Sarah, John, and James Burrows of Sandy Utah. She is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren, Sam White and his wife Kathie, Cyndi Preston, Brad, Kim, Brittany, Melissa and Jesse White of Roosevelt UT, James, Maude, Tabitha and Marshall Struble of Cottonwood, CA., Andrea, Bruce Alisha, Breanne and Caleb Slade of Payson, UT., and Angelica and Allen Dressler of Clifton. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister Virginia Parks, and two grandsons, Michael and Steven Hoaglund. McLean Funeral Home, in Fruita, is in charge of arrangements.
