Published: Thursday, January 14, 2010 1:08 PM EST Herald-Palladium St. Joseph MI Helen Elizabeth Lake BENTON HARBOR - Helen Elizabeth Lake, 92, formerly of Benton Harbor, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at Providence Health Care, located in Zeeland, Mich. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, with the Rev. Chris Spitters officiating. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens, Hagar Shores. Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home, friends wishing to send a condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Helen was born to Gustav and Marie (Waldvogel) Enders on June 6, 1917, in Hamilton, Ohio. She enjoyed gardening, golf, and was a wonderful cook and seamstress. Helen was a fan of early jazz music, listening to the likes of Louis Armstrong and Cab Calloway; she would tell stories about seeing them perform live. She was a devoted wife, a trusting mother and a generous grandmother. She inspired tolerance, curiosity and laughter in all children and teenagers who gathered around her. She will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Paul) Kelley of St. Joseph; grandson, Eric (Connie) Peet of Saugatuck; granddaughter, Vickie (Donald) Frazier of Zeeland; a sister, Louise Wolfram of North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Frazier of Montana, Jennifer (Jeremy) Tevis of Iowa; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Lake, on Feb. 22, 1987.
