Maryland Independent Newspaper, Waldorf, MD. 9/29/2010 Helen Theresa Hazzard, 94, La Plata Helen Theresa Hazzard, 94, of La Plata, formerly of Suitland, died Sept. 27, 2010, at Charles Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in La Plata. Born July 3, 1916, in Atlantic City, N. J., she was the daughter of the late Walter Bentley Leek and the late Bessie Young Leek. Mrs. Hazzard was a jewelry buyer for 30 years with the Hecht Co. and a member of Bradburn Memorial Methodist Church in District Heights, where she was active with the church choir, ladies aid and was a Sunday school teacher. She was a devoted mother and true Christian, always serving Christ in many ways. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Harrison Hazzard Jr.; daughter, Nancy C. Lozier; and sister, Dorothy Leek. She is survived by her son, Richard Alan Sr., and his wife, Laura Hazzard of La Plata; grandchildren, Richard A. Hazzard, Jr. and Michael and Denyse Lozier; and great-grandchild, Isabella Nancy Lozier. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sept. 30 at Raymond Funeral Service, La Plata, where a service will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 1. T he Rev Paul Dennis will officiate.
