Lake, age 78, of the township of Hay River died Monday, February 13, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Herb was born on January 10, 1928, in the township of Hay River, Dunn County, Wis., to Lloyd P. and Mamie (McIntyre) Lake. He owned his own lime business at the age of 14. Herbert married Alice Ruth Goodell on October 10, 1947. He farmed all of his life, and owned a sawmill business. He co-started the Boyceville Community Ambulance Service in 1974. Herb served on the board of Hay River Township for 24 years, and the Dunn County Board for eight years. He was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, spending time with family, friends and his favorite dog, Buffy, either on slow rides in the country or coffee and dice at Boyceville Oil. Herbert is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lloyd; and two sisters, Ethel Benitz and Ruby Luepke. Herbert is survived by wife, Alice of Boyceville; six children, Aneta (Dorian) Spielman of Menomonie, Lonna (Bill) Borgert, Diana (DeDe) Nutter, Ricky (Gloria) Lake, Jeffrey (Kelley) Lake, all of Boyceville, and Melanie Lake of St. Louis, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, Drew (Melissa) Spielman, Wyatt Spielman, Lisa (Todd) Stuart, Tina Talmage, Tessa (Troy) Kostman, Tonya Schutts, Jeremy (Spike) (Sue) Nutter, Jenny (Jerry) Conrad, Richie (Glory Watts) Lake, Lindsay Lake, April Lake and Jake Lake; 13 great-grandchildren, Brittnay, Melissa, Tristan, Tori, Tyra, Colton, Megan, Bryce, Erika, Taylor, Cody, Hannah and Trevor; and his best companion, his dog, Buffy. He is further survived by nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Herbert will be sadly missed by all. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2006, at the United Methodist Church in Boyceville, with the Rev. Tim Matthaei officiating. Burial will be in Hay River Cemetery, township of Hay River. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Anderson Everts Funeral Home in Glenwood City, Wis., and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
