Houston County Courier Crockett TX Sunday-July 1, 2007 Mrs. Hilda Lauree Lake Davis, age 77, loving and kind wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully Monday, June 25, 2007. Mrs. Davis was born February 16, 1930 to Dr. and Mrs. G. B. Lake Sr. of Crockett. Mrs. Dais grew up and was educated in Crockett. In the fall of 1947, she enrolled at Texas Christian University and on the day of her arrival on campus, she met Gilbert. Romance blossomed, and within a week they were engaged their 58-year-long marriage began in 1949. Mrs. Davis and Gilbert spent many happy years from 1949 to 1971, ministering Christian Church congregations in Camden, Ark., Ayden, N. C., Galena Park, Hereford and Shreveport, La. Over those years she embraced the role of minister's wife and joyfully worked as friend, counselor, leader and role model. Sons, David and Mark arrived in 1952 and 1956. In 1971, Mrs. David and Gilbert moved to Fort Worth and she conintued her church service through Texas Christian University, Brite Divinity School and university Christian Church, where she was an elder and trustee, among other capacities. In 1972, she fulfilled her promise to her parents that she would complete her college education and graduated from TCU with an education degree. Mrs. Davis proceeded to a 10-year career as a teacher in the Crowley ISD. Grandchildren, Mark, Elizabeth and Neely, came into the warm embrace of Mimi in the 1980s and received the unsurpassed gift of grandparenting, from her and Big Daddy, who assured them that they were the most special children in the world. Mrs. David was a prolific painter. Mrs. David's art adorns the homes of many friends and family members. In her last years and up until weeks before her passing,she took Neely and Elizabeth to helped them discover that they had a hidden talent passed down from Mimi. Mrs. Davis was a 19-year breast cancer survivor. Mrs. Davis undertook all of the therapy her physician prescribed and followed their advice carefully. Mrs. David coninually beat the odds, outlived prognosis, encouraged her family and lived happily ever after. Survivors include her husband Gilbert; sons David and wife Anita and Mark and wife Robin; grandchildren Mark, Elizabeth and Neely Davis and Michael and Christopher Johnston; and sister Nita DeGrand. Preceded in death by her brother Grady B. Lake Jr. Funeral Services for Mrs. Lauree Lake Davis were held Thursday, June 28, at 4:00 p.m. at University Christian Church in Fort Worth. Graveside Services were held Friday, June 19, at 10:00 a.m. at Greenwood Memorial Park. Pallbearers were John L. DeGrand, David DeGrand, Jack DeGrand, Bryan Lake, Matthew Lake Berry, Harold Muckleroy, Steve Patterson and Roger Neely. Memorials: Gifts may be made to the Hilda and Gilbert Davis Christian Education Fund at University Christian Church or the Hilda and Gilbert Davis Scholarship Fund at Brite Divinity School, Texas Christian University.
