From the Kingston Whig-Standard, Kingston, Ontario, Canada, Mar. 28, 2000: QUOTE Hilda Thora Lakins (Cavanagh) In her 75th year passed away at her home in Peterborough on Monday, February 7, 2000. Hilda was born in Yarker, Ontario to Alvie and Margaret Lakins. She was a longtime resident of the Kingston area before moving to Peterborough. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack. She will be sadly missed by her four children, five grandchildren, sisters, brothers and many nieces and nephews. Hilda worked as a laundress in Peterborough also Kingston and has been retired fro some time. She enjoyed playing bingo. Her life revolved around her family. She especially enjoy the family get togethers where she played guitar with her son, Rocky. The funeral was held on Friday, February 11, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Gordon Tompkins, 49 Colborne Street. Rev. Dwight Sterin officiated. Pallbearers were David Cavanagh, Paul Cavanagh, Dale Purtell, Tom Neal, Steve Whitehead and Doug Kelly. Interment was at Cataraqui Cemetery. UNQUOTE Yarker is a village just north of Kingston.
