Irene C. Laken (Venegoni)

Age 86 years.  At rest on Wednesday, January 19, 2000 at Provena St. Joseph
Medical Center.

Loving mother of Stanley (Elizabeth) Laken of Joliet and Daniel (Melinda)
Laken of Normal, IL, and dear grandmother of Natalie Irene Laken, Rebecca A.
Briick and Robert O. Briick, Jr.  Also survived by two devoted sisters,
Antoinette (George, deceased) Boettcher and Josephine (Barney) Cobetto both of
Joliet, a sister-in-law, Rose Venegoni of Joliet, and numerous nieces and
nephews.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Laken (1980); her parents,
Joseph and Natalina (nee Colombo) Venegoni; and two brothers, Charles and
Maurice Venegoni.

Irene was a former employee of the American Can Company and the Gerlich
Barklow Company.  She was a life long member of Holy Family Church and a
member of the Cantigny Ladies Auxiliary #367.  Irene was a homemaker at heart
and loved taking care of her husband and the boys.  Irene has spent the past
seven years at Rosewood Care Center.  She enjoyed reading novels, playing
bingo, watching Natalie play and grow, and rooting for her Cubbies on
television.  Her family and friends will dearly miss her.

Funeral services will be held from the Grant-Tapella-Freitag Westwood Memorial
Chapel on Saturday, January 22, 2000 at 8:45 a.m. to Holy Family Catholic
Church for a funeral mass at 9:30 a.m.  Interment St. Joseph Cemetary,
Joliet.  Visitation Friday, January 21, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.  In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association in her
name would be appreciated.
