She was 94. She was born Dec. 26, 1909, in Morgan County to Thomas Hays and Ada Elizabeth Lehman Hays. She married Ray Lake in 1934. In 1957, she married Dr. M. A. Jones. She graduated from Versailles High School in 1927 and went on to graduate from William Woods College in 1929 and Central Missouri Teachers College in 1931. Mrs. Jones was a teacher for 34 years. She began teaching in Versailles and then taught sixth grade in the Boonville school system for 26 years. After retiring from teaching in 1972, Mrs. Jones helped the elderly in Boonville. She regularly played piano at Boonville nursing homes. She was also well known for her pies and the fresh produce that she grew in her garden. She was also a member of First Christian Church in Boonville. Mrs. Jones is survived by her daughter, Joyce E. Lake of Boonville; her niece, Connee Hayes of Kansas City, Kan.; and her dog, Casey. Her husband and two brothers died earlier. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Davis Funeral Chapel, 1397 Ashley Road in Boonville. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Newkirk Cemetery near Fortuna. Services, conducted by the Rev. Dan Crum, will follow at 1:30 p.m. at First Christian Church in Boonville.
