Maryland Independent; Laplata Md; 2000-7-28 James Joseph Lake Jr., 78, of Waldorf James Joseph "Jimmy" Lake Jr., 78, of Waldorf died July 23, 2000, at Civista Hospital in La Plata. He was the son of the late Washington, D.C., showman and sports announcer, "Carnation Jimmy Lake, Mayor of Ninth Street." He attended St. Joseph's School, Gonzaga High School and Strayer Business College. He was active in civic affairs and was his father's business partner for 25 years before working for the D.C. Government until he retired in 1980. A resident of Waldorf, his last year was spent at Genesis Elder Care in La Plata. Born Dec. 9, 1921, in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late James Joseph Lake Sr. and the late Kathryn Donnelly Lake. He is survived by his sister, Berry Hutchinson of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; nephews, Michael Greg, James Darion, and USAF Captain George Hutchinson; nieces, Debra Hutchinson of Arlington, Va. and Kathryn Pheulpin of Waldorf; grand nieces, Julie Garity, Kristen Hatcher, and Lauren, Alana and Angela Hutchinson; and great-great-nephew, "Sonny" Joseph. He was the uncle of Larry Pheulpin, Darlene Mingioli, James Clerico and Nona Richardson. Services were held July 27 at Huntt Funeral Home in Waldorf with the Rev. Henry Middleton officiating. Interment followed at St. Peter's cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Arthritic Foundation. Arrangements were provided by Huntt Funeral Home. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2000 at THE HUNTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3035 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, MD, at 10 a.m. Interment St. Peter's Church Cemetery, Waldorf, MD.
