Published on September 6, 2016 in Niagara Gazette Niagara Falls, NY James William 'Jimmy' Robbins died on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in North Tonawanda after a long illness. He was 85. He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Robbins; two sons, James F. Robbins (Chere Jiusto), William J. Robbins (Lisa Robbins); and a daughter, Patricia L. Mihalic (Mike Mihalic); grandchildren, Matt, Annika, Chris, Kiley, Morgan and Nick; great-grandchildren, Harrison and Conner and many treasured nieces and nephews. Jim was born in Niagara Falls to Dorothy and Harold Robbins, on December 8, 1930; one of two children. His sister, Joan, died in childhood. He attended Sacred Heart School and Trott Vocational. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1948. After he was discharged, then served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 as a cook. He married Betty J. Phillips on November 3, 1951. He went to work in 1953 at Kimberly Clark as a mechanic and retired from there. Jimmy had a great sense of humor, loved music and loved to dance. To the end of his life Dixieland Jazz never failed to elicit a tapping toe or clapping hands. He was an avid collector of miniature elephants, and loved sports , especially basketball and swimming. He was also a big fan of card games, from poker to cribbage. The family would like to give special thanks to the Northgate Healthcare facility for their above and beyond care, as well as Niagara Hospice for treating our family like their own.
