The Columbus Dispatch Columbus OH Jan. 15, 2014 Jeannette Corrine (Posey) Mayo, 85, born April 9, 1928 in Bangor, Maine to the union of Arthur and Tephy Leek. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1946. She married Richard Flowers, a serviceman from Marietta, Ohio in 1952 and moved to Columbus, Ohio. Jeannette raised her only daughter as a single parent for fourteen years until she caught the eye of fellow church member, Walter Leroy Mayo, Sr. They married and lived a very full life together until his death in 2000. Jeannette attended White Cross Nursing School and served as a Surgical Technician at Riverside Methodist Hospital and The Ohio State University Medical Center until her retirement. During her medical career, she had the distinct pleasure of serving as assistant to Dr. Arthur James. It was also during her career that she was given the nickname Posey. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Bethany Baptist Church where she was active in the Senior Choir, Pastor's Service Ministry, Nurse Corp, Elnora Roberts Mission Circle, Sunday School, Ministry to Women. She is preceded in death by her mother and father Arthur Wallace and Mary Tephy Leek husband, Walter L. Mayo, Sr., three sisters Daphaney, Pauline, Elaine and two brothers Alden and Ralph. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter, Sheri-Lynn Flowers (Reverend Bruce) Wynn (Columbus); her "bonus" daughters, Christine Morris (Cleveland) and Cora (Curtis) Miller of Columbus, Her pride and joy granddaughter, Bethany Nicole Caffey; "bonus" grandchildren, Stephanie (Benjamin) Kyles, Ann (Richard) Cunningham, Dr. Milton Mayo (Renee) Morris; Godchildren, Angela Miller Barker and Michael Miller; as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and all her "adopted" sons and daughters. She had many dear friends including "her buddy", Mrs. Virginia Sneed. Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Bethany Baptist Church, 959 Bulen Avenue, Columbus, Ohio, Friday, January 17 at 12Noon. Reverend Jonathan Bradford, Eulogist. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 a.m. with special tributes preceding the service. Special thanks to Zusman Hospice at Wexner Heritage House. Interment at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
