Topeka Capital-Journal; Topeka KS; 2014-10-8 Jillene "Alanda" McCARTER, 50, of Topeka, was taken by the hand of the angels on Saturday, Oct 4, 2014. She was born June 15, 1964 in Long Beach CA, the daughter of Jack and Georgia Lake. Alanda was an avid photographer and poet and was published in several books for both her poetry and photography. She went to school and became a veterinarian technologist and enjoyed working with animals. She was married to her husband, Mark, for almost 34 years having been married in Platte City MO on June 18, 1981. She was the love of his life. Alanda loved her family deeply and spent time with Mark and her son, Rodney, geo-caching with her son, James, and also spent numerous hours of free time with her granddaughter, Ashlyn. Alanda is survived by her husband, Mark, of the home; sons, Rodney A McCARTER (Jenny HANNA), James J A McCARTER (Kayla); granddaughter, Ashlyn McCARTER, all of Topeka; sisters, Michelle VIAL (Stan) of Boron CA, Rhonda MORRISSEY of Topeka; brothers, Jack LAKE Jr (Katherine) and Richard LAKE of Chilhowee MO. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jessica MURAFETIS. A memorial service celebrating Alanda's life will be at noon, Saturday, Oct 18, 2014, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Rd, Topeka KS 66614, where family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
