The Wake Weekly Wake Forest NC April 24 2003 On Easter evening, with his family at his side, John Caldwell Lake, 96, promininet Grenada MS businessman and community leader, began his resurrection life. Born in Wake Forest on December 3 1906 to Professor and Mrs James L Lake, he lived during his youth at 315 North Main Street, which was home to the Lake family and their decendants during most of the past century. Upon completion of his college education at N S State College and Clemson University, Mr Lake accepted a position with E J Du Pont de Nemours, where he was instrumental in the development of the new product, nylon. Thereafter, he pursued a career in textile engineering in the state of Mississippi where he was active in both commerce and politics. Mr Lake is survived by three daughters, Mrs Judith L Cutler of Grenada MS, Mrs Elizabeth L Lewis of Hattiesburg MS, and Mrs Josephine L Pugh of Tupelo MS; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three nieces, Mrs Virginia L Walker of Wake Forest, Mrs Sarah P Barge of Buies Creek, and Mrs Barbara L Aderhold of Hoover AL; and two newphews, Grady S Patterson Jr and I Beverly Lake Jr of Raleigh. ** In case you are not familiar with the area, Wake Forest, Buies Creek, and Raleigh are in NC. Where it says that he attended N S State College, I think it might by a typo and should read N C State College (which is now North Carolina State Univ). It appears that he was a brother to I Beverly Lake Sr, who I think was a prominent judge in NC and his son, I Beverly Lake Jr, was the Lt Governor for NC.
