Argus Courier; Petaluma CA; 2012-5-9 John G. Lake III (1937-2012) John Lake was born in Portland, OR on October 7 1937 to John and Vera Lake. He attended Portland public schools. After graduation he attended Portland State University where he received a teaching credential, and later Reed College, where he completed a Masters Degree. For many years John was a teacher of special needs children, and traveled to Guam to help establish programs for deaf students. He also taught special needs children in remote Alaskan villages. After retiring from teaching in the San Francisco School District, he spent much of his time working on the Lake family geneology. John was a world traveler, house remodeler, and a man of many words. John is survived by his wife Jean, son Michael, and daughters Linda and Angela. He was blessed with one grandchild, Ayana Penders. He is also survived by two sisters, Eleanor Lake of Davis, CA and Diane Haight of Chico. Friends and relatives are invited to join in a memorial service on Saturday, May 19 at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of the Open Door at Fifth and B Streets, Petaluma.
