Lake Jan. 27, 1917 - June 8, 2008 Resident of San Leandro Age 91, passed peacefully away June 8, 2008 with family at his side. He joins in heaven his mother Catherine, father John and daughter Julie. John was born in the Bay Area and was a graduate of Berkeley High School. He faithfully served his nation during World War II. While in the Navy, he met the love of his life, Evelyn. Their relationship blossomed into marriage in 1945 in Washington DC. After the war, the couple returned to John's home state of California. They have been residents of San Leandro's Washington Manor since 1953. John is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Evelyn; sons, Larry, Jerry, John and his wife Janine, and Kelly; and grandchildren, Natalie, Justin, Eric, and Julie. He is also survived by his sister, Thelma Farnsworth and her family. Along with his wife Evelyn, John was a pillar of the St. Felicitas Church Community, instrumental in civic events and fundraising activities. John was a long-time, dutiful usher and faithful Eucharistic Minister for the church. John was an avid lover of music. In addition to his regular duties during the war, John cherished playing saxophone in the Navy Swing Band. After the war, he continued his lifelong enjoyment of music also playing the organ. He shared a passion for golf as well, regularly participating in annual golf tournaments. John was a long-time, career employee of Southern Pacific Railroad. In retirement years, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends in S.I.R.S. and was a loving and devoted grandfather. Grateful thanks to St. Felictias, Sister Mary LaSallette for her tender and supportive spiritual guidance during his transition to heaven; to Mary Valladon for her recent in-home Eucharistic ministry and to his health care professionals. Many thanks for the countless prayers from friends in the St. Felicitas community. Visitation will be Wednesday June 11, 2008 from noon to 8:30 P.M. at the Santos Robinson Mortuary, 160 Estudillo Ave., San Leandro, with the Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 P.M. A procession will leave the mortuary Thursday June 12th at 9:00 AM going to St. Felicitas Church, 1662 Manor Blvd., San Leandro, for the Funeral Liturgy at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward.
