The Chronicle-Herald, Volume 53; Number 15 and The Halifax Daily News Halifax NS Canada Thursday, January 18, 2001 LAKE John T. - 88, of Murray Corner, died Wednesday, January 17, 2001. Born in Birmingham, England he was a son of the late John and Elizabeth (Salter) Lake. Immigrating to Canada in 1922, he became the foster son of Parker and Grace (Crawford) Briggs. In early years he was a woodworker, fisherman and storekeeper, operating Lake's General Store for 35 years in Murray Corner. He was an elder in First United Church, Murray Corner, also being the custodian for 50 years. After retiring from the storekeeping, he continued working with his son fishing and boatbuilding. He was a director with the Botsford Co-op and the Fernwood Cemetery. He will be sadly missed by three sons, Wallace (Meredith) and Winston (Margaret) both of Murray Corner; and Stanley (Karen) of Halifax; one sister, Elsie Hatheway, of Plaster Rock, N.B.; a foster sister, Ida Welland, Murray Corner; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Jean (Field) on December 29, 2000. The remains of the Late John T. have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral home, 3 West Main St., Port Elgin with visitation today from 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the First United Church, Murray Corner on Saturday, January 20, 2001, at 2 p.m. Rev. Carolyn Byers officiating. Burial in the Fernwood Cemetery in the spring. Those wishing may make donations to the First United Church, Murray Corner, or a charity of their choice.
