The Chronicle-Herald/Mail Star; Halifax NS Canada; 2009-1-7 HANLON (Lake), Joy Madeline - 78, Head of St. Margaret's Bay, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2009, in QEII Health Sciences Centre. Joy was born in Halifax. She was the only daughter of the late James Lake and Margaret (Smith) Lake. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ron Hanlon and by her sons, Jim (Anne), Halifax and Ron (Greta), Waynesboro, Va, as well as grandchildren, Leo, Kate, Madeline and Sean, all of Virginia and Chris, Heather and Greg, Halifax, and by sisters-in-law, Bernadette Hanlon and Edna (Tess) Johnson, also of Halifax. Joy was a proud and active alumnus of Mount Saint Vincent Academy (Class of '47) and of Mount Saint Vincent University (Class of '50). Joy taught at the former Halifax Vocational School as well as in the public schools in both Halifax and Quebec City and is fondly remembered by her many students over the years. During their long and happy marriage, Ron and Joy lived in Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, St. John, N.B., Victoria B.C., Quebec City and Toronto, and they built friendships with many people in those cities and beyond that still continue. Joy was predeceased by her parents, and by her only daughter who died at birth in 1965. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, January 9, in Snow's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax, with a funeral mass to be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, in St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Hubbards.
