Winston-Salem Journal, NC on 1/22/2009 HAMPSTEAD, NC - Katharine Ray Lake, 86, died peacefully on January 21 in Winston Salem, North Carolina. She was born to Clark and Ethel Ray on December 4, 1922 in Tusculum, Tennessee. She graduated from Tusculum College, University of Tennessee and University of North Carolina Greensboro with advanced degrees in music and Home Economics. Katharine had a career in teaching home economic at Westtown Friends School in Westtown, Pennsylvania. She was an avid bridge player and golfer and was known for knitting and sewing skills. Katharine lived in Hampstead, North Carolina for the past 25 years with her surviving husband of 33 years, Bob Lake. She moved to a home in Winston Salem in February of 2008. She is also survived by her daughter Sara Fly and her husband, Bob of Winston Salem, two granddaughters, Savana Lamar and her husband Heston of Wilmington, NC and Mariah Kulp of Raleigh, two great grandsons, Knox and Stanton Lamar, two sisters, Mabel Rymer of Charlestown, SC and Bertha Cathrall and husband Jack of Stratford, New Jersey and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel in Hampstead, North Carolina at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24.
