Gazette Times Corvallis OR 29 June 2010 Keith Rupert Kernan Oct. 12, 1960 -- June 25, 2010 Keith R. Kernan was born in Hornell, N.Y., to Keith E. and Jean Kernan. Keith graduated from Gold Beach Union High School in 1979, and worked for the Coos Forest Protective Agency, where he met Peggy, who was working at a forest lookout tower up the Rogue River. After marrying in 1984, Keith and Peggy moved to Kenai/Soldotna, Alaska, where Keith worked as a construction inspector. They eventually moved back to Oregon, and Keith continued working in the construction field and eventually bought a business in Corvallis, FEI Testing and Inspection. Keith (a hero to all in his family) fought a fearless fight with cancer, and will be missed by his wife, Peggy; sons Casey and Riley; surviving father, Keith E. Kernan; and brothers and sisters (Carole, LeeAnne, Bill, Dan, Sharon, Kathy, Reuben and Nathan). Keith cherished time spent with his family, and lived life to its fullest, even during his long battle. Fishing, hunting, hiking, boating, traveling to new places, camping, woodworking, enjoying the outdoors, and just being at home with his family and good friends enlightened Keith’s life. Keith’s goodwill and generosity will be missed tremendously by his family, friends and business associates. Even though he will be missed more than words can express, there is comfort in knowing that he is with his mother, Jean, who also lost her battle to cancer in 2008. They are both in a place where there is no pain and suffering. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at Morning Star Church in Salem, with a gathering following at the Kernan residence. Memorial remembrances may be made by donation to the American Cancer Society (Research for Esophageal Cancer) or the Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center (preservation project). Arrangements are under the direction of Twin Oaks Funeral Home.
