Alberta Miller, 86, of Independence, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, in Buchanan County Health Center, Independence, after a brief illness. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids, with burial to follow in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home. Alberta was born Sept. 28, 1917, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Nathan and Flora Lake Woodridge. She worked for Russell's Guides Inc. until her marriage to Clyde Miller on Feb. 28, 1942, in Cedar Rapids. She lost him on April 25, 1997. She is survived by her son, Larry (Anita) Miller of Independence; a daughter, Betty (Melvin) Tormey of Fenton, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Lori Miller, Steve (Kate) Miller, Daniel (Leigh Ann) Tormey, Patricia (John) Hannah, Theresa (Henry) Hoskins, Sheila (Trent) Eisenhauer, Mary (Brent) Nowlin and Ken Tormey; nine great-grandchildren, Katherine, Victoria and Elizabeth Hannah, Talia and Tyler Eisenhauer, Hunter and Logan Hannah, Nathan and Nicholas Tormey; a stepgreat-grandson, Jonathan Hoskins; brother, Walter Woodridge of Seadrift, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Ione and Raymond Olmstead of Central City; sisters-in-law, Sally (Ken) Nuss of Santa Rosa, Calif., Irene Miller of Iowa City and Wilmer Koss of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, and sister-in-law, Dorothy Woodridge. Alberta was a homemaker who loved time with her family, and fishing and playing cards with her husband. She was involved with Camp Fire Girls, Jefferson High Band Parents, PTA and Boy Scouts. Grandma will always be remembered for her quiet and loving presence. Cooking the best chicken noodles, great goulash, and apple, rhubarb and pumpkin pies, and coming to all her grandchildren's games, music and plays. She loved to watch the rabbits and birds that came to her feeders. Thank You for everything Grandma, you are gone but will never be forgotten. Memorials may be directed to the family.
