Journal News (Hamilton OH), Friday, February 27, 2004 - LaVerne Day LaVerne Day, age 74, of Hamilton, passed away at Hospice of Hamilton at Sunrise, on Thursday, February 26, 2004 at 1:12 a.m. She was born in Hamilton, on May 8, 1929, the daughter of Fred and Fannie (Hurst) Lakes. LaVerne was a graduate of Ross High School. She was employed as a secretary for GTE for 10 years, retiring in 1982. LaVerne was member of Ross Avenue Church of God. On September 21, 1957, in Hamilton, she was married to William Hampton and he preceded her in death on November 17, 1973; on February 20, 1982, in Hamilton she married Willie Day. She is survived by her husband, Willie Day of Hamilton; one daughter, Amelia Lynn and her husband Alan Taggart of Niles, Michigan; three grandchildren, Cody and Dustin Taggart and Jennifer Oswalt; step-son, Greg Day of Hamilton; step-grandson, Chris Day of Moores Hill, Indiana; one brother, Earl and his wife Louann Lakes of Hamilton; three sisters, Irene Patton and Virginia Farmer, both of Hamilton and Juanita Helton of Homosassa Springs, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Cecilia Oswalt; one brother, Bennie Lakes; and two sisters, Olive Welsh and Viola Smith. Funeral services will be held at the Brown Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Monday, March 1, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. with Dr. Dale French of Ross Avenue Church of God, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Ross Avenue Church of God.
