A memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2006, in Zoar Lutheran Church in Canby for LaVerne Lake, who died April 28 at age 91. LaVerne Ahlberg was born March 23, 1915, in Portland. She graduated from Commerce High School and lived in La Jolla, Calif. during World War II, then lived in Wood Village and Gladstone before moving to Canby in 1978. She was a secretary and bookkeeper for several companies, including 7Up bottling in Oregon City. In 1935, she married William S.; he died in 1998. F2, col. 1. LAKE, LaVerne (AHLBERG) A memorial service for LaVerne Lake, 91, will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at Canby's Zoar Lutheran Church, 190 S.W. Third Avenue. She died April 28, 2006. Born March 23, 1915, in Portland to Hilma and Axel Ahlberg, she graduated from Commerce High School. She wed William Lake in 1935; he died in 1998. She held numerous secretarial/bookkeeping jobs, including at San Diego's Camp Callan during World War II and Oregon City 7-Up Bottling Company, which her husband co-owned. She resided in Portland, Eugene, Albany, LaGrande, Wood Village, Gladstone and Canby. Besides Zoar Lutheran, She joined the Swedish Society of Linnea, St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Willamette Valley Country Club, Gladstone Ladies Lioness Club, F.L. Club, and numerous bridge groups. Survivors include nephew, Jim Norlin (Patty) of Damascus; niece, Janet Norlin Silverberg (Jay) of Petaluma, Calif.; great-nieces, Sara Norlin of Vancouver; Katie Norlin of Athens, Ala.; Kristen Silverberg of Los Angeles; and great-nephew Eric Silverberg of Palo Alto, Calif.
