MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Lee Roy "Snooks" Beck, 76, of 49 E. Fairview Ave., died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital. Born Oct. 14, 1932, in Mercersburg, he was the son of the late Jacob A. and Jennie C. Pensinger Beck. He was employed by the Borough of Mercersburg, where he worked for 29 years. The borough's maintenance building is named in his honor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Mount Tabor Brethren in Christ Church in Mercersburg. He was a member of VFW Post 6241 of Mercersburg and Little Cove Gun Club. He is survived by one sister, Marie Harp of State Line, Pa.; his companion of 25 years, Julia B. Grove of Mercersburg; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Brandt and Jane Ensminger; and one brother, Jack Beck. Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mount Tabor Brethren in Christ Church, Mercersburg. The Revs. Kevin Lay and Roy E. Brake Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg. The viewing will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg, and Sunday one hour prior to services at the church.
