Leota Mae Bates, 82, formerly of Celina, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at the
Laurels of Shane Hill Nursing Home, Rockford.

She was born Nov. 18, 1918, in Van Wert County to Leotis and Hazel Mae
(Hurless) Lake.  She married Arthur N. Bates in December 1937; and he died
in 1997.

Mrs. Bates was a retired personal Care Assistant.

Surviving are two sons, Sherman (and Jopyce) Bates of Whitehall, MI, and
Arthur "Randy" (and Marsha) Bates of Spring Lake, MI; two daughters, Mrs.
Edward (Sherry) Tobin of Celina, and Mrs. Ron (Bonnie) Shupe of Ocala, FL; a
brother, Victor Lake of North Carolina; 12 grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren; and
step-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Lake; and a sister,
Loray McMahan.

A memorial service was held Sat., July 7 at the Assembly of God Church,
Celina.  Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City.
