Herald News; Joliet IL; 2001-3-14 & 2001-3-15 Lillian K. Shawmeker (nee Lake) age 73. Monday, March 12, 2001 at her late residence following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Lockport and a lifelong Lockport area reisdent. Retired from the Colonial Steak House as a waitress after many years of service. Formerly employed by the US Government at the Joliet Arsenal Ammunition plant. Preceded by one son, Jerry in infancy; one daughter, Michelle Spurgeon (1993); her parents, Corlie and Margaret Lake; four brothers and one sister. Survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Billie E. "Skip" Shawmeker of Lockport; two sons, Gary (Patricia) Shawmeker of Joliet and Phil (Karen) Shawmeker of Romeoville; five daughters, Reberta (Jack) Barney of Joliet, Barbara (late Richard) Zielke of Lockport, Billie Jean Shawmeker of Wood Dale, Diane Hogan (Dan) Parker of Romeoville and Paula (Darrin) Akins of Coal City; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, James (Rachael) Lake and Arthur (Judy) Lake; two sisters, Frances (late John) Butler and Cecilia (late Robert) Veihl all of Joliet. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services for Lillian K. Shawmeker will be on Friday, March 16, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at the West Chapel. Rev. Lee Jany officiating. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory to Seasons Hospice or Silver Cross Cancer Center would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday 4-8 p.m. at: Fred C.
