Fremont Tribune; Fremont NE; 2012-11-7 Linda Joyce Carlson, 71, passed away Monday, Nov. 4, 2012, at her residence in Fremont after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Linda moved to Fremont as a child and attended Fremont High School, graduating in 1959. She graduated from Midland Lutheran College in 1963. Linda taught in Fremont Schools for 34 years, retiring in 1999. She was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, the Fremont Area Medical Center Auxiliary and the Fremont Area Association of Retired School Personnel. Linda Lakin married Joe in Ponca on Nov. 8, 1963. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, walking at the lakes, cats, and was an avid bird watcher, and loved traveling. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Ann Buck of Grand Island and Susan Carlson-Traudt of Lincoln; one granddaughter, Sarah Buck; and sisters-in-law, Casey Carlson of Fremont and Sister Mary Lou Carlson of Oceanside, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her parents, Ken and Marian Lakin; and a brother, Tommy. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont with the Rev. John Plowman officiating. Memorials have been established to St. Timothy's Lutheran Church and the Fremont Area Association of Retired Teachers for a scholarship. Dugan Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
