Published in the Patriot-News on 1/4/2006. Harrisburg, PA Loretta L. Gatling Loretta Lake Gatling, 78, of Etters, passed away on January 3, 2006 at Stonebridge Nursing Home after a long illness. Formerly of Newark, New Jersey, Mrs. Gatling was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Louis Charles Gatling, Sr., and son, Dennis Gatling. She is survived by sons, Louis C. Gatling, Jr. and his wife, Nancy Mendes of Etters; David Gatling of Elizabethville, Leonard Gatling and his wife, Pat of Crete, Illinois, William Gatling and his wife, Nancy of Lykens. She also leaves 20 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A loving and generous woman, Loretta will be missed by her family and friends. She attended Arts High School in Newark, New Jersey, where she studied visual art. A talented singer, she entertained World War II troops through the USO. After marriage and children, she worked for the New Jersey Department of Welfare with abused and emotionally disturbed children. She retired in 1991 and moved to Pennsylvania with her husband. Mrs. Gatling was a member of the Lewisberry congregation of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
