The Chronicle-Herald/Mail Star; Halifax NS Canada; 2010-1-18 SPENCER, Lorna Elizabeth, 88, of Summerville, Hants Co., passed away peacefully in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 15, 2010. Born in Summerville, she was a daughter of the late Embert and Martha (Mosher) Lake. Lorna was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and dedicated her life to being a homemaker who always made sure that family, friends and strangers alike never left her house hungry. That extended to the many hummingbirds at the countless feeders outside her windows that she was known to have loved so dearly and fed so well. Lorna was also known for her great love of local music, never wanting to miss a jam session in her community. Lorna was a good friend to all and will be especially missed by her family, friends and her beloved dog "Carter". She is survived by her daughters, Joan Baldridge, Kempt; Helena (Art) Sanford, Centre Burlington; sons, Lester (Sharon), Larry (Debbie), Donnie (Liz), all of Summerville; Kenny (Gloria Gormley), Windsor; Bruce (Wanda), Lakelands; Brian (Janise Card), Upper Burlington; and Charlie (Janice), Brooklyn; 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Prescott (Juanita Sanford), Falmouth, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard; son, John Malcolm; daughter, Gloria; sisters, Geraldine Ross, Mary Davis; brothers, Bud, Douglas, Stanley, George, Lawrence "Collie" Lake, Chesley Card; son-in-law, Grant Baldridge and grandson, Howie Baldridge. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, January 19, from 7-9 p.m. in J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy. 215, Summerville. Funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Kempt United Baptist Church, Summerville, Pastor Burt Walsh officating with a private family burial in Loyal Hill Cemetery, Summerville.
