20 January 1921 The People's Defender West Union OH Pneumonia Takes Splendid Woman Mrs. Jas. Shoemaker Succumbs After Several Weeks Illness Peebles, Ohio - Special Correspondence. Mrs. Lou Shoemaker, wife of James Shoemaker, well known famer residing in Hoop Ridge, passed away last Friday night, after several weeks illness with pneumonia. Mrs. Shoemaker, whose maiden name was Lake, was 65 years of age and was a splendid Christian woman. She was of a most kindly disposition and took delight in extending a helping hand to those in need. She was a great church worker and held membership with the Evergreen Baptist church. Besides her husband, she is survive by an adopted daughter, Mrs. Olga Simmons, of Peebles, and four sisters. The funeral services were conducted at the Evergreen church Sunday morning by Rev. C. M. Naylor of West Union, followed by burial in the church cemetery.
