The Daily Gleaner; Fredericton NB Canada; 2009-2-27 TRACY, LOUISE "LOIS" With her children at her bedside, the death of Louise "Lois" Tracy, of McAdam, NB, occurred peacefully on Wednesday, February 25th, 2009 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton. The daughter of the late Bessie and Clair Laking, Lois was born in McAdam, December 1st, 1924. Lois was devoted to her family and is survived by her loving children: Sharon Tracy (David McKay), Fredericton, Gary Tracy, Elaine (McIver), St. Stephen, Sandra Williams (James Williams), Pembroke, On, sister: Jackie Lord (Alfred "Nert" Lord), McAdam, brothers: Ron Laking (Colleen) Saint John, Paul Laking, Moncton, Clair Laking, Saint John and Gene Laking (Lillian) Dryden, Ontario, nine cherished grandchildren: Michael DeWitt, Paula Williams, Gary Tracy, Mitchell DeWitt, Tracy DeWitt, Troy Tracy, Shawn Tracy, Trudy Hale and Deanna Tracy, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces , nephews and cousins. Lois was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bernell, baby daughter, Louise, son, Leon ("Beaver") and his wife Elaine Hale Tracy, grandson, Gerry Tracy, and two sisters, Ella Burrell and Hazel McNally. Lois was a proud, respected and popular life-long resident of McAdam. She was an active member of the United Church of Canada and dedicated her time and energy to her family and her beloved community of McAdam. Although Lois' travels to visit her children and grandchildren took her from the far reaches of Northwestern Canada to Yankee Stadium, to Germany there was no place like home. In addition to her countless donations of hand knitted mittens and socks to various local organizations, Lois was the treasurer of McAdam Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary for more that 50 years as well as continually supporting numerous community charities and causes. In 1994, Lois was honored by being appointed, by the Province of New Brunswick, as one of the first "Senior Goodwill Ambassadors" in recognition of her devoted service to her community. As well, Lois was Treasurer of the Ladies Hospital Aid, and President of the McAdam Senior Citizens. Lois took great joy in her grandchildren and the youth of McAdam. Anyone who knew Lois was aware of her loyalty to the Toronto Maple Leafs, albeit an avid Wayne Gretzky fan. In her later years, Lois greatly enjoyed watching the kids play hockey on her neighbor's rink. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Paul's United Church in McAdam on Saturday, February 28th, 2009 at 2:00 pm. Visitation at the Church shall be welcomed from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm on Friday, February 27th, 2009.
