Published in Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin on October 5, 2012 Binghamton, NY Lucinda (Cindy) Lake (1936 - 2012) Lucinda (Cindy) Anne Conklin Lake, 75, died October 3, 2012. Lucinda was predeceased by her mother, Arlene Y. (Conklin) Morgan Popolo, her father John Lewis Morgan and her stepdaughter Clara Virginia (Ginger) Lake Vardersen. She is survived by her husband RADM Julian S. Lake, III, USN (Ret.), Vestal; her stepfather, Cecil F. Popolo, Endicott; her half-sister and brother-in-law, Lisa Conklin Popolo and Eric Tobin Stoopler, Esq., New Rochelle, NY and Heathsville, VA; her niece, Molly E. Stoopler, College Park, MD; her stepdaughters, Diane (Lake) Riordan. Frederick, MD and Julia Ann Lake, Virginia Beach, VA; her stepson, Julian S. Lake, IV, McCourt, KS; several stepgrandchildren and also several cousins. Lucinda Anne Morgan was born on October 21, 1936 in Binghamton, New York. She attended Penn Hall Preparatory School, Harcum Junior College, Defense Information School and did graduate work at Villanova University. Her career began as a reporter for the Binghamton Sun and culminated as a Deputy Public Affairs Officer for Naval Electronic Systems Command where she met her husband of 36 years. Her interests included travel and a love for cats, about whom she wrote many amusing accounts. She was raised a Roman Catholic, having spent several years in young adulthood as a Dominican nun in a convent in Philadelphia. Later, she converted, becoming a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Binghamton. The family wishes to express their special appreciation to Cindy and Julian's loyal friend and caretaker, Linda Hagen. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, Binghamton with the Rev. Janet Watrous officiating.
