San Mateo County Times San Mateo CA February 1 to February 3, 2011 Mabel L. Lake Resident of San Carlos Mabel passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on January 27, 2011 after a nine month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Petaluma, Ca. to prominent dairy ranchers, George and Mary Azevedo. She was the youngest of ten children and a graduate of Analy High School in Sebastopol, Ca. and Healds Business College. After several years of various bookkeeping and accounting positions she joined the J.N. Pitcher Co. in 1956 as office manager. Upon the death of the company founder, John N. Pitcher, she became an owner of the successor company, Pitcher Drilling Co., until her retirement in 2002. Mabel was known for her unusual generosity. Her greatest pleasure came from doing things to enhance the quality of life for her family and friends. Among her many interests were cooking and entertaining. She was a talented tole painter and an avid reader. Mabel was a member of the Phoenix Lake Women's Golf Club, I.O.F. Golf Club, the Bridge Point Ladies Golf Club, and a founding member of the Nu Venture Investment Club. Mabel loved people and people loved Mabel. She leaves behind many deeply saddened friends, family and associates. She is survived by her husband, Richard; three daughters, Diane (Eddie), Sharon (Scott), and Wanda (Rich); three granddaughters, Barbara, Amanda and Samantha; one grandson, Richard; six great-grandchildren, Eklyne, Mikkah, Covey, Lincoln, Blain and Sheldon; and one great-great-grandson, Chase. Family and friends may visit after 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 and are invited to attend a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Crippen & Flynn Woodside Chapel, 400 Woodside Rd., Redwood City, with reception following at Harry's Hofbrau. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 4, 2011 at Skylawn Memorial Park, Hwy 92 at Hwy 35, San Mateo.
