Lake, (nee Walters) of West Bend, died on Saturday, August 19, 2000, at Cedar Bay Assisted Living Facility in West Bend, at age 96. She was born on January 17, 1904, in Poynette, to the late Frank and Sara (nee Dunn) Walters. She attended Poynette grade and high schools and in 1927 graduated from West Suburban School of Nursing in Oak Park, Illinois. As a registered nurse she worked at University Hospital in Madison before becoming the county health nurse for Juneau County in 1938. She then became the county health nurse for Washington County until 1944, after which she worked part time as a nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital and the West Bend Company. On June 24, 1942, Marian married her childhood sweetheart, R. J. Bob Lake at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, in Iowa. Together they made their home in West Bend. He preceded her in death on November 29, 1984. Marian was a member of Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, West Bend, and the Order of Eastern Star West Bend Chapter No. 73. Marian greatly enjoyed the company of others and she especially liked good conversation, good food and a good game of bridge. Along with her enjoyment of family and friends, Marian liked to travel. She is survived by her daughter Marian Elizabeth Nielsen-Gibson of Oshkosh; a grandson, Eric Nielsen of Redondo Beach, California; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Van Epps; a brother, Arthur Walters; and a son-in-law, Allan Gibson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2000, at 7:00 p.m. at FIFTH AVENUE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, West Bend. The Rev. William Dushek will officiate and burial will be in Poynette Hillside Cemetery on Thursday, August 24, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday after 4:00 p.m. with an Eastern Star service to be held at 6:45 p.m. The MYRHUM-PATTEN FUNERAL HOME, West Bend, is assisting the family.
