Marjorie Lake Leonard Post, died in Marion, MA, died Friday (Sept. 12, 1997) after a long illness. She was born in Hartford, in 1900, the daughter of former Governor Everett J. and Eva Sykes Lake. In 1924 she married Julian T. Leonard of Middleboro and Boston and was widowed in 1969. Marjorie married L. Abbett Post of New York City in 1979. They resided in Portola Valley, CA until his death in 1982. She loved all competition; particularly golf bridge and curling and competed in the first U.S. Senior women's curling matches against Scotland. Marjorie loved travel and adventure and was an inspiration to her extensive family throughout her long life. Her last 20 years were spent at the Sequoias in Portola Valley, CA, summers in Marion, MA. and in the winter at the Hillsboro Club in Florida. She was the devoted mother of Julian T. Leonard, the late Charles E. Leonard of Burlington, VT and Elizabeth L. Breyman of Los Altos Hills, CA.; loving mother-in-law of Sandra Smoll Leonard of Burlington and stepmother of Priscilla Post Howland of New York City and Joan Post Parker of Greenwich. She leaves nine grandchildren; six step grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren. Her memberships included The Country Club, The Chilton Club, Duxbury Yacht Club, The Kittansett Club, Sippican Tennis Club, Senior Ladies International Curling Club and the Junior League of Boston. She was an active volunteer and ardent fund-raiser and supporter of the Vermont Association for the Blind A memorial service will be at St. Gabriel's Church in Marion, MA on October 4 at 2:30 p.m. and interment of her ashes will follow at Nemasket Cemetery in Middleboro, MA.
