Published in The Sacramento Bee from May 6 to May 7, 2012 Sacramento CA LAKOS, Matilda On May 1, 2012, the Angels came down from heaven and took our beloved mother home to be with the Lord. She passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born to Steve and Eveka Stanich in Omis, Croatia, she emigrated unaccompanied to the U.S. on the Queen Mary in 1938, and settled in the Sacramento area. She was a seamstress at J.C. Penney's tailoring department prior to starting a family and becoming a dedicated homemaker. Matilda touched many lives with her kind, gentle and sharing spirit. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Tony Lakos. Loving and devoted mother to Linda Bisho (Phil), George (Nancy), Peter, and Elaine Keller (Steve). Wonderful and nurturing grandmother to Troy Bisho, Justin Keller, Amber Keller, and Katie Parker. Her simple pleasures were being with and cooking for family and friends, playing the penny slots, and watching All My Children and Wheel of Fortune. She was also an active member of the American Slavic Social Club. She had a very caring and giving heart, and everyone who came to know Matilda loved her, and valued her loyal and faithful friendship. She loved and cared for her family deeply and unconditionally. Her special manner and presence will forever be remembered, cherished, and missed.
