Lake, 70, of Chaffee Road, Stafford Springs, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at home in the loving embrace of her husband, John, and daughter, Roseanne. She was born in London, England, the daughter of the late Edward and Edith (Jones) Griffin. Maureen retired after 20 years of service as a data entry employee for the state Department of Motor Vehicles. She was a member of St. Edward Parish. Maureen is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, John J. Lake of Stafford Springs; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Bonnie Lake of Tolland; two daughters and a son-in-law, Bonnie Lake and Jeffrey Potter of New Berry Port, Mass., and Roseanne Dobson of Stafford Springs; seven grandchildren; two brothers, George Griffin and Terry Griffin, both of Kent, England; and many nieces and nephews who loved her very much. For years, she crafted beautiful quilts which kept her family and friends warm inside and out. She loved flowers and kept amazing flower gardens in the English style. She particularly loved daisies, a sunny, happy flower much like her sunny, happy disposition. She was a loving and generous person who was always present for others when needed. We will all miss her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at St. Edward Church, High Street, Stafford Springs. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. A calling hour will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at Introvigne Funeral Home, 51 E. Main St., Stafford Springs.
