The Chronicle Herald Sunday, Jan 20, 2013 Halifax NS Volume 15 Number 3 {Paper says issue number "xx"} LAKE, Melvin Frederick "Mel" - 89, East Walton, passed away suddenly on January 17, 2013, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in East Walton on October 23, 1923, he was a son of the late Philip and Myrtle (White) Lake. Mel was a veteran of the Second World War serving overseas. He was a member and trustee of the Tenecape United Church, a member of the Walton Shore Volunteer Fire Department for 21 years and a member of the East Walton Community Club for over 40 years. He worked for Dresser Minerals as an electrician for many years and retired from the Corp of Commissionaires. Mel always enjoyed a good game of cards and cribbage and rarely missed a minas ville jam session. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Margaret (Newlands); daughters, Sandra (Ed), Janice; sons, Roderick (Joy) and Robert (Deborah); greatly missed by his nine grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren also survived by his sister, Marjorie (Eugene) Wood and brother, Dennis (Jean) and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mel was predeceased by his brothers, Sam, Chester, Basil, Marston and sisters, Marlene, Phyllis and Evelyn. Visitation will be held today, Sunday January 20 from 7-9 p.m. and funeral service Monday, January 21 at 2 p.m. both in J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy. 215, Summerville, Rev. Alex Mosher officating with burial in Tenecape Cemetery, Tenecape. No flowers by request.
