Merry E. (Lake) Hootman

Merry Hootman, 92, of Ventura, died Feb 25, 2009, in Mesa, Ariz., after
a brief illness.  She was born Dec. 20, 1916, in Coalinga, Calif., to
Mary and Charles O. Lake.  Her father worked for the Shell Oil Co. The
family moved to Ventura in 1921 and lived on the Avenue for six years.
They moved tn to town in 1927.

Merry attended Mill School, Ventura Junior High, Ventura Senior High
and Ventura College, graduating from high school in 1934, and junior
college in 1936.

She worked five years for L.N. Diedrich and 29 years for the Ventura
County Auditor Controller's Office, retiring as supervisor.

She married Charles "Ed" Hootman in Las Vegas in 1951.  Ed passed away
in 1997.

Merry is survived by her brother, Bernard B. Lake of Las Vegas; niece,
Nancy Manlet of Bailey, Colo.; and nephews, David Kraft of Mesa, Ariz.,
Donald Lake and Charles Jacob Lake of Ventura County, Charles Jay Clifford
of Big Bear, and Terry Clifford of Salida, Colo.; and grandnieces and
grandnephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and
Crematory, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
