Idaho State Journal; Pocatello ID; 2007-7-4 POCATELLO - Mervin Andrew Lake, 85, passed peacefully at home July 1, 2007. Mervin was born the youngest of eight and a twin on April 29, 1922, in Pocatello, Idaho. He grew up in Idaho Falls, Pocatello and Lava Hot Springs. He served World War II in European Theater as a train dispatcher for the Army. On April 11, 1944, he married Helen O'Neil. He started working at the ageof 18 for the Union Pacific Railroad as a telegraph operator in Gooding, Idaho. He worked up throughout the UPRR and retired as a train dispatcher. Mervin was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, currently in the 9th Ward. He was active as a High Priest group leader and worked at the temple for 10 years. Mervin enjoyed fishing and hunting. Mervin is survived by; his wife, Helen Lake, Pocatello; children, Peggy (Merlin) Larsen, Idaho Falls, Lee (Bonnie) Lake, Archer, Idaho, Katherin Clark, Pocatello, JoAnn (Wally) Hancock, Aloha, Ore., John (Ann) Lake, Paris, Idaho, Leslie Daniels, Pocatello; 30 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by; his parents John James Lake and Otense Rosedahl; daughter, Merva Lou Castillian; son, Rex Lake; and brother-in-law, Dennis Clark. Funeral services for Mervin will be held on 11 a.m. on Saturday July 7, 2007, at the 9th Ward LDS Church on Hawthorne and Quinn. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday July 6, 2007, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave., and one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will follow services on Saturday at the Mountain View Cemetery.
