Published in the Morning Sentinel on 9/11/2006. Waterville ME Miriam Doris Lisherness, 88, of Strong died Friday, Sept. 8, 2006, at Sandy River Rehab and Living Center in Farmington. She was born July 10, 1918, in Freeman, a daughter of Albert and Iola (Lambert) Lake. She was educated in the schools of Strong, graduating from Strong High School class of 1936. On Oct. 4, 1939, Miriam married Charles Lisherness. He died Oct. 14, 1993. In her earlier years she worked for Forster Manufacturing Co. She was a member and officer of the Aurora Grange No. 202 and the Pomona State and National Grange. She was a member of the Strong United Methodist Church, also a life member of the United Methodist Women of Strong; member and officer of the Strong Senior Citizens and Strong Alumni Association, where she and her husband were an honored couple in the year of 1994. The town of Strong honored Miriam and Charles in 1986-1987 as couple of the year. Miriam was a volunteer reader for Strong schools and also judged speaking contests. She was a founding member and officer of the Pierpole Riding Club. She loved sports, music, drama and books. Miriam loved spending time with people. She is survived by a daughter, Loretta Deming of Strong; a son, Robin Lisherness of Skowhegan; four grandchildren, Carolyn Deming, Brent Deming, Roi Deming and Kathleen Deming; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son, Gary, in 1995. Visitation hours will be Monday, Sept.11, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Strong United Methodist Church in Strong. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, at the church. The Rev. F. Gary Hubley will officiate. Interment will be in the Strong Village Cemetery.
