Emporia Gazette; Emporia KS; 2004-12-27 Myron "Ben" Lake of Melvern died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka. Mr. Lake, who worked as a dairy farmer most of his life, was 86. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Melvern, where the family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Waverly Cemetery, Waverly. The son of Martin and Bertha Reinhart Lake, he was born July 27, 1918, in LeRoy. He grew up in the LeRoy area. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He married Velma M. Coble on Jan. 28, 1941, in Iola. She died Sept. 23, 1980. Lucille Gettinger, whom he married on Feb. 14, 1985, died May 1, 1997. He is survived by his third wife, the former Carol Perry, whom he married on March 14, 2003, in Burlington. Mr. Lake is also survived by three sons, Marvin Lake of Waverly, Donald Lake of Topeka and Myron Lake of Ava, Mo.; a daughter, Cathy Bringleson of Greenville, S.C.; a stepson, David Gardner of Naples, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Fox of Quinlan, Texas; and a sister, June Baldwin of Riverside, Calif. Twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren also survive. A son, Leon Lake, died earlier, as did four brothers, Fred Lake, Matt Lake, George Lake and Martin Lake, and a sister, Martha Barton. He was born on July 27, 1918, in LeRoy (KS), the son of Martin and Bertha REINHART LAKE. Ben grew up in LeRoy. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps. He had been a dairy farmer most of his life. He had also worked as a carpenter building several homes in the Melvern area. Ben married Velma Marie COBLE on Jan 28, 1941. She died Sept 23, 1980. He then married Sarah "Lucille" GETTINGER on Feb 14, 1985. She died May 1, 1997. Almost two years ago, he married Carol FETTERS GARDNER PERRY on Mr 14, 2003, in Burlington (KS). He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Leon LAKE; four brothers, Fred, Matt, George, and Martin LAKE; and a sister, Martha BARTON. He is survived by his wife, Carol; his sons, Marvin and his wife, Sharon, Donald and his wife, Pam, and Myron and his wife, Jane; a daughter and her husband, Cathy and Rob BRINGLESON; a stepson, David GARDNER; a stepdaughter and her husband, Carolyn and Alan FOX; a sister, June BALDWIN; 12 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchidlren; four great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. Services will be at 1:30pm Wednesday at Melvern United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Waverly Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 7 to 8pm today at Melvern United Methodist Church.
