Salt Lake City UT Nihla Marie Lake"Together Forever" Nihla Marie Swett Lake, 63, passed away April 24, 2004 in Sandy, Utah, after a courageous 17-year battle with cancer. Born November 4, 1940 in Manila, Utah to Thomas and Vena Moore Swett. Married Shirl Ray Lake in Salt Lake City, Utah February 6, 1959; later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death September 23, 2003. Nihla was an active member of the LDS Church. She served many years as a Scout Leader and in Relief Society. Nihla's greatest work here on earth was her compassionate service, which included making hundreds of hats and leper bandages for the Humanitarian Center and local hospitals, a Helping Hands volunteer, opening her home for the Indian Placement Program and for many other children in need. She had a great love for children and was a day-care provider for years. She dearly enjoyed gardening and being outside in nature. She also enjoyed cooking and providing meals for others. Nihla's love for her children and grandchildren was shown through her many acts of love and kindness. Survived by children, Robert (Shel-lie) Lake, Paulden, AZ, Laura (Drew) Schmidt, Kearns, Michael (Rachel) Lake, Sandy, David (Alma) Lake, Salt Lake City, Gary (Cindy) Lake, Sandy, Amy Lake, Sandy; 11 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two brothers and four sisters. Funeral services to be held Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the Mount Jordan 1st Ward Chapel, 8950 South 400 East. Friends may call Monday 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, and Tuesday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Sandy City Cemetery.
