Published in Flint Journal from November 12 to November 16, 2012 Flint, MI Norma (Weiss) Lake Age 82, died Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Hurley Medical Center. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, November 16, 2012 at St. Robert Catholic Church, Fr. Paul Schwermer officiating. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Rossell Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until time of the mass Friday at the church. A Rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Robert Guardian Angel Fund. Norma was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio on September 20, 1930, the first daughter to Alice and Herman Weiss. She was raised on a farm in Amelith, a small community west of Bay City, MI. She married Kenneth R. Lake on September 15, 1951 and also graduated from Hurley Hospital School of Nursing that same year. Norma was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church for almost 60 years and a member of the choir for 32 years. She was the coordinator of the Flushing Area Blood Mobile for 24 years. Norma served as president of the Council of Catholic Women at St. Robert Church, the Flint Region, and the Lansing Diocese. She travelled to Italy, where she shook hands with Pope John Paul, II. She also performed at Carnegie Hall with the St. Robert choir. Norma is survived by; her husband of 61 years, Kenneth; nine children, Richard (Lori), Victor (Cynthia), James (Amy), Valerie, Julie (James) Devine, Sharon (Tom) Sabourin, Lisa (Ken) Jansen, Robert (Terri), Amy (Bill) Goodman; 21 grandchildren, Alexis, Eric, and Michael Lake, Stephanie Gates, Brian Lake, Michael Lavalle, Nathan Lavalle, Jessica Lawrence, Bertie Lake, Emily Mosher, Rachel Wittbrodt, Robert Kurtz III, Maeghan Devine, Jimmy and Daniel Devine, Caroline Jansen, Gabrielle Jansen, Dakota and Bailey Lake, Colton and Grace Goodman; 11 great-grandchildren, Anthony and Jacob Wittbrodt, Christopher and Bryn Lawrence, Gavin Kurtz, Maddie, Jayden, Jordynn, Natalie, Isabella, and Daniel Devine; sisters, Loretta Thacker, Colleen (Edwin) Kish, Lucille (Donald) Schmidt, Florence (Leo) Hale, Virginia July; brother-in-law, Tom Lake; many nephews, nieces, cousins and dearest friend, Carolyn Chabica of Elmo, SC. She was preceded in death by her sister, Verna Walter in 2010. She is loved and will be dearly missed.
