Thayer, 81, of Sidney, Ohio, formerly of Mount Pleasant, died at 6:29 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney, Ohio. Born April 17, 1918, at Kahoka, Mo., she was the daughter of Paul and Anna M. Blum Lakin. She married F. Paul Thayer on Dec. 26, 1938, in Paris, Mo. He died April 14, 1965. She was engaged to marry Warren H. Boyer of Sidney, Ohio. Mrs. Thayer was a 1935 graduate of Kahoka High School and attended Kirksville (Mo.) Teacher's College. After her husband's death, she graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, with a bachelor's degree in education. She taught elementary education at Danville until she retired. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Kahoka and organized and directed the children's choir of First Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant. She taught piano privately for some time. She was a 50-year member of Bethlehem Chapter 38 of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she was past worthy matron and organist, and was a past member of White Shrine in Washington. She was an active supporter of Midwest Old Threshers and Settlers Association and the Midwest Central Railroad and had attended the reunions since the very first one. Survivors include one daughter, Paulette Filz of Portland, Ore.; one son, Marshall F. Thayer of Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several cousins. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, including one in infancy. Visitation will begin at noon Sunday at Weir Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. There will be an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m., after which the family will receive friends until 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Thayer will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Weir Funeral Home. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Kahoka Cemetery, Kahoka, Mo. A memorial has been established for Midwest Old Threshers Foundation, Mount Pleasant.
